Peace and blessings

Welcome to my creative space.

I’m Awista, an artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. I am the middle-born and very curious daughter of two creative parents. Growing up I would draw all the time, until the end of high school, when I had what you could call an existential crisis. My questions led me to God, but unfortunately the interpretation of faith that I received was one that didn’t consider art important or “proper”.

I didn’t create for the next seven years and they were the hardest years of my life. Then something beautiful happened.

By the Grace of God, I reconnected with my faith through people who were truly rooted in it: scholars, seekers and the kind of people that love God and live by those words. It was then that I finally came to understand what it means to be a muslim.

That felt like a new beginning, a new breath of life. I found myself, the young Awista that was full of love and hope, and along with it a newfound sense of purpose. I picked up my drawing tools and began to freely express that love and hope.

I started drawing again.

Art is now a part of my everyday life and a reflection of my interests: people and nature, history, cultures, architecture and spirituality. Outside of creating, I study Islam and write high school curriculum. I am an avid reader, an explorer and admirer of nature. I love to spend time with loved ones, and take immense joy from long walks.

I believe in the power of art to communicate beyond language. Each stroke, each shape, each colour can leave an imprint on our hearts, stirring a profound response. I hope that my artworks bring joy and warmth to your lives and beautify your homes with the remembrance of God and our higher purpose. Thank you so much for being here, exactly where we are meant to be.

With love and light,
Awista
